Nov. 21st PROTEST ACTION CANCELLED
There will not be a demonstration at the DRBC in Trenton, NJ.
Early this September, Protecting Our Waters hosted the movement to resist dirty drilling for shale gas, here in Philadelphia. Outside the gates of the industry’s national convention, some 2,000 citizens along with members of the Pennsylvania Federation BMWED-IBT rallied (in the middle of a workday) for clean air, water, and earth, in what was the largest U.S. protest against fracking to date. Besides racking the nerves of industry execs inside, we took our message to an international audience, garnering hundreds of TV, radio, and print stories. Some of the best "Shale Gas Outrage" press coverage can be found in the roundup from Protecting Our Waters’ Communications Director, Francesca Lo Basso here
Regrettably, despite mountainous evidence of harm and a robust movement to protect the environment and public health, the fracking industry presses forth almost unflinchingly to expand its operations. The next area in its sights is the Delaware River Basin, source of greater Philadelphia’s drinking water. This critical watershed’s regulatory agency, the DRBC, has scheduled a special meeting for November 21st in Trenton, NJ to vote on proposed regulations that would allow fracking within our watershed. On November 21st, DRBC is expected to lift the moratorium on fracking which tens of thousands of ordinary people have fought for and won. There's not been even a hint of a single environmental or health impact study.
We need to mobilize as many people for Monday November 21st as we did for the September 7th Shale Gas Outrage in Philadelphia!
